The meeting began at 7:00 p.m. with a welcome by Mr. Cox and a review of the Regiment’s upcoming summer events.

Monday, July 20 – Thursday, July 23:  Summer Session 1

Students will primarily be outside in the morning, break for lunch from 12:15 - 1:00 p.m., and then continue to work on music indoors until 4:00 p.m.  Students need to be in good mental/physical shape for camp!  Make sure your student is well hydrated and well fed in the days leading up to and during camp.  Goal for the July camp is to get through the show opener.  You are invited to come and listen to the opener in the PAC the last ½ hour or so of camp on Thursday.

Monday, August 10 – Friday, August 14 &

Monday, August 17 – Friday, August 21:  Summer Session 2

These two weeks constitute approximately 35-40% of our rehearsal time in general.  So, your student’s attendance at this (and the July camp) is CRUCIAL!  The goal for the August camp will be learning drill and getting through the opener both musically and visually.  The schedule for these two weeks will follow July’s…outside in the morning working on drill and inside during the afternoon practicing music (break for lunch from 12:15 – 1:00 p.m.).

Lunches during camp will cost $4-$5 per day.  THERE WILL BE NO IOU’S ACCEPTED THIS YEAR!!!  Have your students remember to bring their $$$, their own lunch, or they will be provided with peanut butter & jelly sandwiches.

The dress code for camp consists of plain white t-shirts, dark shorts, and athletic shoes.  This will be the standard attire for rehearsals throughout the year.  Also, don’t forget your water, sunscreen, sunglasses and hat!!!

Overview of upcoming events:

Friday, August 28, 2009 is our first home football game vs. Spruce Creek.  The Regiment will perform; however, they will not be in uniform.  Spruce Creek’s band may or may not be coming.  (This is considered a pre-season game, and sometimes other bands do not travel for a pre-season game.)

Saturday, September 12, 2009 is our Rehearse-A-Thon, BBQ & Premier Show (9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.)

On Friday, October 2, 2009, we will have a rehearsal after school until around 10:00 p.m. or so.  This is in anticipation of the Marching Arts Festival we are hosting the next day.  We do not compete; however, the Regiment will be marching in exhibition.

Saturday, October 3, 2009 marks the date for day-long marching arts festival.  We will host 12-15 bands for a state competition.  Many parent volunteers will be needed to help make this event a success!  More information will be disseminated during the August 25th parent meeting.

Fundraising Opportunities

The Regiment will be selling Entertainment Books from July 23 – August 20.  If each student sells six books, the band will earn $17,000!  Flyers will be coming out soon with more information.  Books will be bagged on Wednesday, July 22 during band camp.  Don’t forget you may earn money for your student’s account by working with our off-campus concession crew.  Contact Karen Lattin at tchsoffcampus@hotmail.com for more information.

Spirit Gear

Orders are now being taken for Regiment t-shirts, polo shirts, hoodies, pants, and student window decals.  Show your pride and help the band at the same time.  Spirit Gear purchases helped raise over $2,500 last year!  Contact Vicki Young at vickiusafretired@yahoo.com

Help Needed

Donations of medical supplies (bandages, wraps, Tylenol, energy bars, etc.) are appreciated and needed by our nurse, Colleen Sibel.  Contact her at colleens1000@comcast.net

We need volunteers to help man the concession stands during the junior varsity and varsity football games.  Also, we are responsible for the concession stand during soccer games as well.  (You can earn money for your student’s trip account by working the concession stand during soccer games only).  Please contact Mark Frye at mark@majortechnologies.com for more information.
